Why LoveHuddle Joined ODDA — And Why Safety Can't Be an Afterthought

Why LoveHuddle Joined ODDA. And Why Safety Can't Be an Afterthought.
On 22 July 2026, ODDA (the Online Dating & Discovery Association) publicly announced LoveHuddle as an Associate Partner. It's a small line in a press release, but it marks something we've believed since day one: safety isn't a feature you bolt onto a social platform once it's already built. It has to be the foundation everything else stands on.
The problem with "move fast and figure out safety later"
Most social and dating platforms are built the other way around. Growth comes first, engagement metrics come second, and safety, real, structural safety, gets treated as a compliance checkbox somewhere down the list. Users get hurt. Bad actors find the gaps.
And by the time a platform tries to retrofit protection into its architecture, the damage to trust is already done.
We didn't want to build LoveHuddle that way. From the outset, the question wasn't "how do we get people talking to each other as fast as possible?" It was "how do we make sure the people talking to each other are who they say they are, and that the space they're in actually protects them?"
What ODDA membership actually means.
ODDA exists to raise the bar across the online dating and discovery sector, bringing platforms, technology providers, and safety experts together to build shared standards rather than letting every company solve the same problems in isolation.
Becoming an Associate Partner isn't a badge; it's a working relationship.
As part of that relationship, we've been collaborating directly with Simon Newman on LoveHuddle's safety architecture, stress-testing our approach, identifying gaps before launch rather than after, and making sure the systems we build are grounded in sector expertise rather than good intentions alone.
Why this matters for the people who'll actually use LoveHuddle.
None of this is abstract for us. Every safety conversation we have comes back to a simple test: would we be comfortable with someone we care about using this platform, exactly as it's built today? That's the standard, not "is it good enough to launch," but "is it good enough to trust."
Partnering with an organisation like ODDA means we're not marking our own homework. It means the safety claims we make are being shaped and checked against real sector standards, not just our own internal assumptions about what "safe" looks like.
Building a People First Network
We think about this as part of a bigger shift that's needed across the industry, platforms and AI systems designed around protecting people first, rather than maximising engagement first and hoping safety keeps up.
Call it a People First Network approach: technology that treats a person's wellbeing as the starting design constraint, not a downstream patch.
LoveHuddle is still pre-launch. That's exactly why this work is happening now, while the architecture is still being shaped, not after the first incident forces our hand.
We're glad to have ODDA, and Simon's expertise, in our corner as we build.
LoveHuddle is a safety-first social connection platform, currently in pre-launch development.
